My Favorite Brownie Recipe

Not too long ago, I shied away from baking. I was the type of girl who strayed from recipes and liked to 'wing it' all the time with my home cooking. I still cook this way, and love it. BUT, when it came to making baked goods... every time I "winged it" the bake turned out terrible. Just terrible.

So with time, I learned that you need to stick to a recipe. And then once you have the basics down, you can wing it in smaller more subtle ways.

My favorite treat lately to make from scratch... homemade brownies. They are just so crispy and chewy and chocolatey and perfect.


Alec's Favorite Brownies:

Dry Items: Mix all dry items together in a bowl and set aside

+ 1 1/2 cup Sugar

+ 3/4 cup Cocoa powder

+ 3/4 cup All Purpose Flour - I use a 1 for 1 Gluten Free flour from Namaste or Pamela's -- both are incredible.

1 Teaspoon Baking Powder

1/2 Teaspoon Salt


Wet Items: Beat the eggs and mix in the melted butter and vanilla.

3 eggs

1/2 cup melted butter

1 Teaspoon Vanilla extract


Add your Wet ingredients to your dry ingredients and mix until combined. Your mixture should be pretty runny.


Baking: preheat oven to 350 degrees

Poor batter into a greased 9x13 inch tray

* For my 'winging it' addition... I like to sprinkle a little cinnamon and sugar on the top of the batter before I put it in the oven.

Place in oven for 33 - 38 minutes or until proper crispiness has been achieved and the toothpick test comes out clean!

Remove from the oven and set aside to cool for 20-30 minutes. However, if you are like me, then you can't wait that long to dig in. Just watch out... they will be hot!
