10 + Ideas for your family session

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

Every family or newborn photography session starts with the same question… Where do you want to take your pictures? At your home, a favorite park … or go on a new adventure? Usually, this conversation leads to discovering what my clients really want to capture during our time together. We discuss what they would normally do on a slow weekend morning, or what type of activities they enjoy as a family. Bath time with your baby, or watching as a toddler discovers what it feels like to have sand between their toes... these are the moments we want to remember and that is why I do what I do. To remember the big stuff, but also the tiny details of our lives.

Here are a few places + spaces I love to take my clients in and around the Seattle area for their family session. And as always, newborn sessions usually take place at your home or in your birth space. It all depends on when you are ready to have me in your space.

When it rains!

Because, lets face it, rain is always a possibility in the Pacific Northwest. Of course, if weather is bad enough we can always reschedule. But rainy weather isn’t always bad news. We can make incredible images that tell your story in any weather. Here are a few of my favorite spots to have your family session when the weather gets tough.

YOUR HOME

Nothing is cozier or more familiar to you and your children than your home. We cuddle in bed, play board games, and bake cookies.

YOUR LOCAL GARDEN STORE OR NURSERY

A great alternative to being outside, while still having lots of greenery and texture.

Makes for great filtered light with plenty of green during the grey months in the North West. Also a fun idea if you want to plan a session around planning + planting your garden.

PIKES PLACE MARKET OR CAFE WITH BIG WINDOWS

Get comfy sharing dessert and coffee or wandering the passageways of your favorite urban spot. We play by interacting with spaces and places. Each neighborhood in Seattle has its own unique and quirky corners where you can wander in and out for free.

Where do you like to explore?

BE A TOURIST FOR THE DAY

Unlimited spaces to be inspired by!

The Seattle Art Museum, The Aquarium, The Woodland Park Zoo or The Seattle Wheel,  The Sculpture Park…the possibilities are endless.

JUST GET WET!

Or… bring your Boots and your jackets and lets go splash around!

WHEN THE SUN IS OUT!

We all want the perfect sunny day in Seattle for our session… and when the sun is out… nothing is better. Seattle has so much to offer in terms of places to enjoy the sunshine, and here are a list of mine;

GOLDEN GARDENS PARK, SEATTLE

One of my favorite places to be in Seattle… and where my husband and I celebrated our wedding day! I don’t hesitate to take my clients to this wonderful Seattle Park anytime they ask. It holds a special place in my heart.

CARKEEK PARK, SEATTLE

OR RICHMOND BEACH PARK

Beautiful waterfront parks great for a hike, playground, picnic and low-tide water play.

Seattle Center

For amazing texture, color, and backdrops…. maybe a cafe, or some ice-cream too.

ANYWHERE WITH A LOW TIDE... LITERALLY ANYWHERE

A place with water access and enough shallow water to play in is ideal. Reflections and playtime in the water are my all time inspiration and I plan my water sessions around the low tide charts. When you can work barefoot, it's a good day!

YOUR GARDEN + HOME

You will be surprised at what small corners can look like through my lens.

Reimagined colors and light. Your normal routine may be dull for you, but for me I see beauty in your day to day, and soon these small moments will be gone and years behind you.
